At Mound Builders Country Club an octagon, passageway and a circle has been preserved for posterity. These earthworks, like the "Great Circle" at Mound Builders State Park, were once part of the expansive "Newark Works." Tragically, these earthworks are all that remain of this once magnificent Hopewell geometric earthwork. The rest having been totally obliterated by the emergence and inevitable development of the city of Newark. Today, Mound Builders Country Club is owned and operated by the Ohio Historical Society and is open to the public, though a private golf club is operated on the site during the summer months.
